Goodbye from Discovery Summer 2017

London Calling

Discovery Summer Uppingham Takes London By Storm

Wednesday saw Discovery Summer Uppingham making an early start in order to make the most of a day out in the United Kingdom's Capital City, London. Host, later this month to the the 2012 Olympic Games, we passed Olympic Venues Wembley (Football) and Lord's Cricket Ground (Archery) on the way to The British Museum.

The British Museum is one of the cultural and historical highlights of the famous London landmarks. Home to one of the most expansive collections of artefacts from around the world, the British Museum lies at the heart of Central London, just a brief walk from Oxford Circus and the world renowned shopping area of Regent Street.

So, after a couple of hours viewing world famous objects such as the Rosetta Stone and Picasso's etchings as well as the marble friezes from Pantheon, we made our way enthusiastically towards "Shoppers' Heaven" where we shopped until we almost dropped..

And despite a monster heavy downpour we all made it back to the buses with our shopping bags a little heavier and our wallets a lot lighter!

Here are some pictures from our trip:

Seeing some of the Olympic Sites was fun on the way into London...

The sun shone for most of the day, making a fantastic image through the unique roof of the museum foyer

The museum not only contains the old, but the new like this unique modern African sculpture of a baboon

And they dwarf students and student hosts alike
