Goodbye from Discovery Summer 2017

Arrival Day!

It was arrival day in Uppingham. The first students started arriving right after breakfast and kids continued arriving all day.

There would be a warm welcome from Discovery Summer as soon as students stepped off the plane with staff in bright yellow discovery shirts ready to meet them at the airport.

Then into an awaiting coach or taxi and on to Uppingham!

Being welcomed by course director Tony

Once the students have arrived in Uppingham they visited the office to answer a few questions, hand in important documents and have a 'mugshot' taken (a photo while they hold up a sign with their name so we know who's who)

After the first kids have arrived the activity leaders, or ALs, take them out into the sun to play a few games. Once there's a bigger group of students a rather competitive game of football starts. There is a lot of talent at Uppingham this year.

In the evening there are few more games while the late arrivals eat a little dinner before joining in.

An egg race without eggs but with tennis balls: no mess and twice the fun!

Hopping race: showing off how fast you are on one leg is an excellent way to make new friends!

Then things get serious when water balloons get involved. It goes without saying that not everyone got away with dry clothes. But luckily, students can dry them in the sunshine.

High-fives from Hannah, our social director, for the winning team!

Onto a friendly game of tug-of-war

And sometimes it is very clear who the winners are...

After this everyone makes their way back to their houses: exhausted but happy. And one thing is crystal clear for everyone: this is going to be an amazing summer!
