At last, the English classes have begun!
After having been tested during the weekend, the students were placed into five different groups according to level and today the lessons have finally begun.
There are five different groups with five different teachers. Each group has lessons in a classroom that has been given a city name. So when students are asked which class they are in, they can simply say, 'London!'
Today's lessons were focused on getting to know Discovery Summer, the staff and most importantly, each other. Students also made contracts on which they agreed upon some rules, but also on what they would like to do and what they hoped to learn during their time at Discovery.
In the Birmingham class teacher Agi got her students to work on some colourful signs.
Part of the first lesson was to get to know the staff and when students couldn't remember everyone they would be able to fill in the blanks using a photo board by the entrance. Here teacher Alix is leading the way from London classroom to find the missing staff members!
Filling in the blanks
Back in the London classroom students started working on their contracts so they could sign them and put them on the walls to put their own stamp on the classroom.
In Brighton students are learning about their student handbook. Every students gets a handbook that has a lot of useful information in it, but there is plenty of room for students to add their own information. Most importantly, there is a diary section in which students write about everything they experience during their time here.
Here you can see teacher Basia with her class, posing proudly with their posters!
In the Glasgow classroom, teacher (and honorary AL) Bryan is helping his students get started on the road to improving their English.
On the top floor students in the Edinburgh classroom are working hard on their posters before posing with them and putting them up on the wall to brighten up the classroom.
After this they continue on their creative path and make posters to show who they are by including fun facts (and a lot of colour!). Teacher Anna started by making on about herself as an example.
Lead by example!
A very colourful and interesting end result!
All of this happened under the watchful eye of our wonderful Director of Studies, Dorota,
who always makes sure students get the best possible English lessons they can.
After all this activity the students were in desperate need of a break. Luckily the sun was shining and and the grass was comfortable!
