Goodbye from Discovery Summer 2017

The English Garden Party

Queen Elizabeth II is famous for her Buckingham Palace Garden Parties. Having not received our invitation this year, the Uppingham Discovery Summer staff decided to organise our own.
With plenty of food for everyone and not a cloud in sight, a wonderful evening of friendship and fun got underway with a traditional English barbecue.
Student hosts play such an important part in what we do. From helping students out in class, to leading by example in the sports and activities. But one of the most important roles they play is making friends and chatting with students in English at meal times and in free time.
With the sun shining and the temperatures in the high twenties all day, our English garden party would not be complete without a chance to soak one of our staff with a throw the sponge competition.
'Pin the Tail on the Donkey' Uppingham style, is not only a great way to improve students' ability to listen to and follow instructions in English, but also leads to hilarious laughter when the tail is pinned to the Activity Leader organising the game.
Hoopla is a timeless classic. No matter your age it always looks easier than it actually is!
One of the great things about Discovery Summer Uppingham is that we get everybody involved. No matter where you are from, your age or your shoe size, you are welcome to join in all the games that we play.
 The lucky dip
Bob-Apple is always a favourite... especially after an energy draining day of activities in this warm summer weather.

And of course the party would not be complete without a chance to soak our Student Hosts!
A thoroughly splendid evening was had by all.
