This afternoon, following a morning full of workshop planning, our students visited the House and Gardens of Surprise at nearby Burghley. The weather was warm, but pleasant enough to walk around the impressive Elizabethan house and grounds without too much effort.
"Built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587, the main part of the House has 35 major rooms on the ground and first floors."
As you can see from our photographs, the impressive decor and gardens provided a wonderful cultural experience of Britains long and rich history which will no doubt be revisited throughout this summer's adventures in Uppingham.
