Goodbye from Discovery Summer 2017

The English Workshops

The English Workshops are in full swing.
Students are working in 6 different groups towards a common goal - outstanding presentations for our

Thursday Workshop Presentation Night.

Here are our groups.

Comic writing group

This workshop is for all those who love magazines which contain a set of stories told in pictures. Students are working hard to design real comic books. They are imagining, inventing, drawing, painting, writing and finally will prepare comic books for the rest of the school.

Drama group

These are the students in Drama Workshop and their first meeting during which they were asked to work with various objects (props) to create a story without words. They also had a lot of fun trying to convey action through movement and pace. The next stage for them is to write a script of a play and then perform it. The students are involved in making props and costumes for the play, as well. It is great to watch them creating things as they are extremely inventive and amusing. I am sure the performance on Thursday will be a real success!

Fashion group

Students are learning about and producing clothes. They are studying vocabulary related to clothes and fashion and discussing these in class. Students have already selected, designed and described their chosen  items of clothes and now are working as designers or models to cut, stitch or staple, colour or otherwise adorn the new garments.

Lonely Planet group

This Workshop is about making brochures similar to the Lonely Planet guidebook. Students have researched information about various cultures and countries, found pictures and information on people, places, prices, etc. Now they are preparing travel brochures for friends from other countries. The brochures will be presented during our presentation night.

Big Heads group

Students are learning about and producing big heads. They have researched different styles of big heads, created a picture of the chosen one and a written description of why it has been chosen. Now they are making the big head and writing about how it was made. All artists will parade  wearing their big heads during our presentation night.

Photo story

Students are working in a group to produce a wall scale photo-story that reflects a comic/ romantic/ social sequence of events as chosen by students. The photo-story has been produced using digital cameras and students have been instructed how to download and print the photos. The photo-story will further contain a host of speech bubbles with text created by the students themselves.
